BIG PINEY — A Sublette County man is dead and two others are in custody following a reported murder on South Mickelson Street in Big Piney on February 5. The alleged victim’s mother, Pamela Mason-Farley, announced in a post on Facebook on February 6 that her son Dakota Farley, 23, had been murdered.

Sublette County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Travis Bingham said deputies responded “to a report of a possible deceased person at a residence on South Mickelson. Upon entering the home, deputies found an adult male on the ground,” with what Bingham described as, “significant injuries.”

“He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Initially, one adult man was taken into custody for questioning on February 5, but by the following day another man was also brought into custody in relation to the death. Rowan Littauer, 19, of Big Piney is charged with murder in the first degree and mutiliation of a dead human body. Orion Schlesinger, 18, also of Big Piney, is charged with murder in the first degree and felony theft in connection to Farley's death.

Both are expected to make their initial appearances in Sublette County Circuit Court later today.

Support for the Farley family
A funeral for Farley is being planned for February 14. With permission from Farley’s father, Ray, area residents have set up a donation bucket at the Fast Stop in Big Piney. A note on the bucket reads, “… Dakota Farley … was a loved member in our community and part of the Fast Stop Family … We are putting up a fundraiser and raffle in his honor to try and help lay him to rest.”

Members of the public are encouraged to make donations via a GoFundMe set up in Dakota's name at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-dakota-farleys-family-in-their-grief.

To donate to the raffle, contact Erika or Preston at Fast Stop in Big Piney. Proceeds will help offset Farley’s funeral expenses.

Farley was a 2019 graduate of Pinedale High School.

Farley’s friends, family, coworkers and former teachers remembered him on social media as, “such a kind kid, with an amazing heart,” “such a sweet guy,” and a “good kid, full of life.”

Anyone with information about this case should contact Detective Sgt. Travis Lanning at 307-367-4378.

This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
