All told the event raised about $78,000, Boyce said, with some online sales still being processed. It’s less than past years, she said, but other events drew people in different directions. Still, the regulars attended and Boyce was pleased to see a lot of newcomers.

21st Kickin’ Cancer benefit raises $78,000

SUBLETTE COUNTY – The annual fundraisers for Kickin’ Cancer in Sublette County helped 400 local families defray travel expenses for necessary cancer treatments and people stepped up again Saturday night, June 10.

For 21 years, community members and business people have come together to buy $100 tickets for the grand prize of one of five top of the line snowmobile or fancy four-wheel packages.

This year’s grand prize is worth $24,000 and the lucky winner was Stacy Saunders of Bondurant.

Kickin’ Cancer’s Sheila Boyce said this week Saunders hadn’t decided which one she was going to take home.

Another big winner was Eric Fairbanks, who won the 6.5 Creedmoor Venture II rifle donated by King Electric.

More than 200 people came to Saturday night’s annual banquet, prepared by Sue Eversull and Scott Mackie at the Sublette County Ice Arena in Pinedale. Bidders took part in other raffles for gifts donated by generous supporters and merchants.

Kickin’ Cancer board president Steve James and guest Dave Stephens cajoled the crowd into having fun with bids – Sue Eversull’s homemade lemon meringue pie sold for a delicious $400.

All told the event raised about $78,000, Boyce said, with some online sales still being processed. It’s less than past years, she said, but other events drew people in different directions. Still, the regulars attended and Boyce was pleased to see a lot of newcomers.

Kickin’ Cancer in Sublette is a nonprofit and has raised more than $800,000 to help families with extra costs that arise when traveling for necessary treatments.
