PINEDALE – The Wrangler wrestling team notched up four more wins in a series of five duels it hosted. On Jan. 30, the Wranglers swept the competition at the Pinedale Invitational and took down Cokeville (39-27), Wind River (45-33) and a combined Jackson-Dubois team (60-23).

“The team wrestled well on Saturday and we’re proud of them,” said head coach Kendall Horrocks. “We have some kids that have gone undefeated for awhile. All of the athletes have the potential to get on the podium if they’re willing to step up to the task.”

Tuesday featured Senior Night, pitting the Wranglers against rival Star Valley and a team from Soda Springs, Idaho. Pinedale defeated Soda Springs, 57-12, and fell in a close match to Star Valley, 39-29.

“We had a good Senior Night and put up a good show for our fans,” said Horrocks.

Cokeville

Junior Colton Gehlhausen opened the action in the 138-pound weight class with a closely fought match against Cael Thompson that went into three periods. Colton Gehlhausen pulled out the win by a 9-7 decision.

Senior Kaleb Bigelow took on Eli Linford in the 160-pound weight class and pinned his opponent in the first period. Senior Keegan Gehlhausen won by fall 21 seconds into his match against Matt Thompson in the 170-pound division.

Sophomore Ethan Kemp (126-pound weight class) battled Jaxson Weske, pinning his opponent in 1 minute, 37 seconds. In the 132-pound division, junior Cody Phelps made quick work of Emmitt Mackey, winning by fall in 10 seconds.

Freshmen Eian Smith (106 pounds) and Jake Hammer (113 pounds) won by open forfeit.

Wind River

Bigelow defeated Charles Dillon by fall in the first period. Keegan Gehlhausen scored his next win when he pinned Casey Befus in less than 22 seconds.

Hammer took down Aiden Rudy a minute into his match. Junior Tristan Haley defeated K.C. Gibson in the 120-pound weight class by a 6-4 decision after a 3-period bout.

Kemp pinned Shawn Reid for his second victory of the day. Colton Gehlhausen pinned Isaac Gardner in the second period. Freshman Fisher Vance won by open forfeit.

Jackson-Dubois

Bigelow pulled off win number three when he pinned Ryan Dun 1:02 into the match. Keegan Gehlhausen followed up with a win by fall in the second period against James Davis.

Freshman Austin Green scored his first win on Saturday, taking down Nick Navas by fall a minute into the 182-pound weight class. Smith promptly pinned Daniel Grubb in the first period.

Hammer won by fall in the second period against Jack Mack. Kemp scored another win in a round against teammate Vance.

Phelps took on Isaac Struna and pinned his opponent in the first period. Senior Taylor Richey won by fall in the 145-pound weight class when he took down Thomas May in the second period.

Haley and Colton Gehlhausen won by open forfeit.

Senior Night

Keegan Gehlhausen defeated Wyoming’s No. 2 ranked wrestler from Star Valley on Senior Night, said Horrocks. Bigelow also stepped up the intensity and took down the third-ranked wrestler in his weight class to move into the No. 2 position, Horrocks added.

Phelps, Hammer, Colton Gehlhausen and Kemp each went undefeated on Tuesday night. Haley “wrestled tough,” fighting through an injury to finish the night, 1-1, Horrocks said.

Richey, Green and sophomore Ian Cantu performed well and went 1-1 against their opponents, Horrocks said.
