SUBLETTE COUNTY – The Sublette County Rock Hounds will host its 7th annual gem and mineral show at the Event Center in the Sublette County Fairgrounds, June 16-18. This year the show includes returning and new vendors, activities, field trips and a special event!
Wyoming Public Broadcasting (PBS) will be at the show alongside In-Stone Fossils from Kemmerer. PBS will host a free movie showing of “Fossil Country” at the Southwest Wyoming Pioneers Senior Center in Marbleton at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. A question-and-answer period will follow the movie. Everyone is welcome to come to this special preview event!
Mr. Bones, the dinosaur puppeteer, will again roam through the show and a gemstone faceter from Corinne, Utah, will demonstrate that lapidary art and offer classes to individuals.
Other demonstrations will be fossil preparation, wire wrapping, sphere making, and flint knapping. Rock dealers from Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Montana are coming. There are many fun and educational activities during the show along with interesting and beautiful items for sale. Rock identification, exhibits, silent auctions, door prizes and raffles will be other highlights. An ATM machine and food concessions will be on sight.
New for the club this year is also the ability to accept credit and debit cards and Venmo at the door and for kids’ activities ticket purchases. Admission is $2 for adults; children under 12 and senior citizens 60 and over are free.
The hours for the show are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Field trips are scheduled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. at the Fairgrounds’ Event Center.
