PINEDALE — A partnership between the Pinedale Fine Arts Council (PFAC), a professional artist and Pinedale High School (PHS) art teacher Katie Facklam and her 92 students transformed the PHS library over a period of three days last week.
According to Tim Ruland, PFAC executive director, PFAC sponsored a visual arts residency at PHS, selecting Idaho-based visual designer Kika Macfarlane, who specializes in murals, apparel graphics, campaign and brand design and animation. Macfarlane is the art director at Two Toes Creative and has experience in the outdoor apparel industry.
Facklam explained the prompt for the project was “What I love about the Pinedale area.”
Her high school art students sketched the area’s iconic imagery, including White Pine, the view of main street with Bonneville Peak front and center, Rendezvous, the Indian paintbrush and meadowlarks as well as the beloved recreational opportunities that make Pinedale an outdoor recreationists playground, like hiking, camping, fishing and cross-country skiing.

Among the 92 art students, Macfarlane and Facklam, the three murals were completed in three days, with the finishing touches added on the morning of May 11.
For over three decades, PFAC has teamed up with art instructors in both Sublette County School District No. 1 and Sublette County School District No. 9 to present weeklong visual arts residencies featuring accomplished artists with the goal of introducing a new genre of visual art to local students while complementing existing art curriculum in the schools.
Their work was shared on the official Facebook page of the U.S. Forest Service Bridger-Teton National Forest.
