PINEDALE – Bluebird skies, a gentle breeze and warm temperatures welcomed track and field athletes to the annual Mountain Man Track Meet hosted by Pinedale High School on Friday, April 28.

Both the Pinedale Lady Wranglers and Wrangler boys hit the ground running, jumping and throwing at the home meet, posting solid performances throughout the day.

The Lady Wranglers snagged second place out of nine teams, tallying 122 points. The contest for the top-two team spots came down to the wire, with Cokeville pulling ahead of the Lady Wranglers by only 4 points to secure first place at 126 points.

Earning 104 team points, the Wrangler boys also took second place. Eight teams competed in the boys’ division and the battle for the No. 1 and No. 2 spots was close as well, with Cokeville taking first place at 110 points.

“We were very happy to get to host our home track meet, and were even more excited to have the weather cooperate,” said Head Coach Kyle Sullivan. “I am always so happy with the track meets that are hosted here in Pinedale as we have so many helpers and volunteers that we do not need coaches to help run events. That is something that I take great pride in with our community.”

Coach Sullivan praised the grit his athletes demonstrated.

“Our team performed extremely well at our home meet,” he added. “We had many kids achieve season or personal bests, which is even better when accomplished at their home facility. These types of days create lots of positive momentum for the team, and the coaches feel good about upcoming meets to help carry that forward.”

Junior Katyana Dexter broke the Pinedale High School stadium record in the girls’ discus on Friday. Tossing the discus 135 feet, 8 ½ inches, Dexter captured gold in the event. Dexter beat Jackson’s Sienna Anderson by more than 28 feet.

In the shot put, Dexter bagged first place with a throw measured in at 40-05 ¾, more than 6 feet ahead of the runner-up from Big Piney.

Sophomore Madison Antonino broke the Pinedale High School stadium record in the girls’ 3200-meter run. Clocking in at 11 minutes, 39.30 seconds, Antonino picked up gold in the event. Antonino soundly beat Bryli Groll of Cokeville by greater than 35 seconds.

In the boys’ pole vault, senior Noah Sletten garnered first place with a leap clearing 11 feet. The second-place finisher from Big Piney came in at 10-06.

Antonino, senior Mandy Majhanovich, sophomore Mae McGuire and senior Stephanie Resendiz secured first place in the girls’ 4x400-meter relay, hitting the finish line in 4:27.79.

An all-freshman team consisting of Alicia Dexter, Candice Goodrich, Claire Thonhoff and Ellie Tolson won the girls’ 4x100-meter relay with a time of 54.34 seconds.

In the boys’ 4x100-meter relay, freshman Cale Dauwen, junior Ryley Lea, sophomore Ian Obod and Sletten beat Cokeville by approximately 3 seconds to snag first place at 47.08 seconds.

Senior Luke Gray, junior Bodie Jensen, senior Ethan Jensen and Obod snapped up first place in the boys’ 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:49.15.

Top-eight highlights

Sophomore Isabelle Rigo captured second place in the girls’ pole vault, reaching a height of 7-03.

In the boys’ long jump, senior Tucker Watson achieved second place, hitting a mark of 19-10 ½.

Fellow senior Sawyer Siefkes secured silver in the boys’ triple jump at 38-06 ½. Siefkes also achieved sixth place in the long jump at 17-11.

Ethan Jensen secured hardware in multiple jumping events. He placed second in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.84 seconds. Jensen went on to snag third place in the triple jump, clearing 37-10.

Resendiz garnered third place in the girls’ 100-meter dash, posting a time of 13.27 seconds. McGuire earned third place in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, timing in at 52.93 seconds.

In the girls’ high jump, freshman Megan Boulter picked up bronze at 4-09. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.70 seconds.

Sletten accomplished third place in the boys’ 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 24.65 seconds.

Clocking in at 2:51.40 in the girls’ 800-meter run, freshman McKinzie Mortensen came in fourth place in the event.

Junior Seren Noble finished the girls’ 100-meter hurdles in fourth place with a time of 17.97 seconds.

Gray also performed well in jumping events. He earned fourth place in the boys’ high jump, with a leap measured in at 5-08. In the 300-meter hurdles, Gray placed fifth at 47.66 seconds. He also captured sixth place in the pole vault at 9-00.

Majhanovich snapped up hardware in multiple events. She garnered fourth place in the girls’ long jump, measuring in at 14-06. In the 400-meters, Majhanovich earned fifth place at 1:06.72. She also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash at 13.83 seconds.

Junior Lauren Jones bagged fourth place in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, hitting the finish line in 53.68 seconds. She earned fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.48 seconds.

With a leap measured in at 18-04 in the boys’ long jump, Lea secured fifth place in the event.

Alicia Dexter placed fifth in the girls’ long jump at 14-04 ½. She took sixth place in the girls’ 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 29.71 seconds.

In the girls’ discus, sophomore Karsyn Henn achieved sixth place with a throw measured at 89-01 ½.

Junior Doug Dexter came in sixth place in both the boys’ shot put, at 36-05 ¼, and the discus, at 98-00.

Rigo captured seventh place in the girls’ 200-meter dash, posting a time of 30.05 seconds.

Obod snagged sixth place in the boys’ 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.42 seconds.

In distance events, senior Liam O’Connor finished seventh in the boys’ 1600-meter run with a time of 5:33.24.

Bodie Jensen placed seventh in the boys’ 400-meter run, timing in under 1 minute at 55.88 seconds.

Goodrich came in eighth place in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles at 19.10 seconds.

Sophomore Matazi Landers earned eighth place in the girls’ 400-meter run with a time of 1:08.27. Senior Cade Covill finished eighth in the boys’ shot put, posting a throw of 35-11 ½.

Relay highlights included a second-place finish for Boulter, Goodrich, Landers and freshman Olivia Tolson in the girls’ 4x400 at 4:54.27.

Watson, junior Dalton Fryman, Siefkes and sophomore Joey Bain took fourth place in the boys’ 1600-meter sprint medley relay at 4:12.97.
