Wranglers grab third at home meet

PINEDALE – The weather cooperated this time around for the Pinedale High School track team, allowing for the its sole home meet of the season to take place under sunny skies on Wednesday. The Mountain Man Invitational was originally slated to take place last Friday, but was moved to this week due to the threat of inclement weather.

Since the meet was moved, fewer teams were able to make it this time around; however, the meet still brought out five teams to compete against the Wranglers. On the boys’ side, Pinedale finished third overall with 230.5 points, while the girls also finished third after amassing 109 points. When combining scores from both boys and girls events, Pinedale finished third overall with a team score of 230.5 points.

Other teams in attendance included Big Piney, Star Valley, Jackson, Farson and Kemmerer. Star Valley won after team scores from both the boys and girls were combined, finishing with 229.5 points

Strong performances from the girls team began with the 100-meter dash, where senior Shantelle Rule took third with a time of 13.01 seconds. Rule then went on to take the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles, where she crossed the line with a time of 15.57 seconds.

It was another big day for Pinedale’s long jumpers, as freshman Anna Harber took second with a jump spanning 16 feet, 1 inch, while sophomore Madison Friend finished third with a distance of 15 feet, 2 inches. Freshman Maggie Majhanovich rounded out the top-notch performances with a jump of 15 feet to take fourth.

In the triple jump, Rule took first with a jump of 36 feet, 8 inches, while Friend took fourth in the event with a distance of 32 feet, 11 inches.

Junior Hannah Mivshek continued to put up strong competitive numbers in shot put and discus events, finishing second overall in discus with a throw of 99 feet, 4 inches. In shot put, she took fourth with her best throw soaring 30 feet, 5 inches.

In pole vault, Friend cleared 8 feet to take first place, while Rule finished off the day with a third place finish in high jump, clearing 4 feet, 11 inches.

On the boys’ side, senior Zack Winer took first overall in the 100-meter dash, beating out the competition with a quick time of 11.46 seconds. Sophomore Teagan Pennock finished close behind in third place with a time of 11.83 seconds, while junior Raven Que took fourth with a time of 11.98 seconds. Pennock went on to take fifth overall in the 200-meter dash, completing the race with a time of 24.39 seconds.

In the 1,600-meter distance race, junior Jackson Snell took second after ending the race with a time of 4 minutes, 59 seconds, while senior Nathan Stewart came across the line a few seconds later to take third place with a time of 5 minutes, 2 seconds. Snell later took fourth in the 800-meter event after finishing the race with a time of 2 minutes, 13 seconds.

In the 300-meter hurdles, junior Kade Winters picked up fourth place with a quick time of 45.29 seconds.

The Pinedale boys rose above the competition in the long jump, where junior Courtney Campbell won the event with a jump of 21 feet, 6 inches. Winer took second after clearing a distance of 20 feet, 8.5 inches, with junior Raven Que finishing just behind in fourth place with 19 feet, 8.5 inches. Junior Carson Stinson took sixth in the event, finishing with a distance of 19 feet, 2 inches.

In the triple jump, Winer took first after jumping 42 feet, 2 inches.

In discus, senior Kyle Brewer was able to finish second after picking up a throw of 126 feet, 5 inches.

The team’s final regular season meet will take place this Saturday, May 6, with a meet in Jackson. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
