Worland edges out Wranglers on the road

WORLAND – It was a light week of competition for the Pinedale High School varsity boys soccer program, as its only game of the week came on the road last Thursday in Worland.

According to head coach JD Dudrey, his team got off to a slow start, which hindered his team in taking charge throughout the opening half.

“It was a long bus ride over there but that is no excuse,” he said. “We gave up a goal fairly early in the first half, but we were able to hold out after that and hold them scoreless the rest of the game.”

The coach said the Wranglers had numerous opportunities in the opening half to pick up a goal; they just couldn’t capitalize.

The Wranglers picked up the pace in the second half, but the team fell into a pattern of playing defense for most of the remainder of the game. Neither team had any major scoring opportunities, with Worland securing a 1-0 victory.

Overall, Dudrey was pleased with how his team played, despite the fact they struggled to pick up any goals.

“We played a pretty good game, but again we struggled to score any goals,” he said.

The team wraps up the regular season this weekend, with road games against Cody today and Powell on Saturday, May 6. To prepare, Dudrey said his team worked on generating an attack in practice this week. He said the final pair of regular season games won’t be exactly easy matchups.

“Cody and Powell are both good teams that we will have to play our best against to beat,” he said.

Today’s road game in Cody begins at 5 p.m., while tomorrow’s game in Powell will begin at noon.
