WHSAA moves affect Pinedale

CASPER – The Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) made a couple of changes during its second fall meeting that will affect Pinedale.

One change deals with how the time at soccer games is kept. Class 3A will now be like 4A and use the clock on the scoreboard as the official time during a game. That motion passed, 10-6.

A motion also passed allowing wrestling and basketball teams to begin practicing earlier. Those two sports will be allowed to start the Monday of Thanksgiving week, instead of the week after, with no practice that Thursday or Friday. The idea behind the change is to give players more time to meet the practice requirements before the first games of the season. This change will take effect in the 2018-19 school year.

The board is also discussing bringing up a motion for the winter 2018 meeting, that in combination school agreements, the larger school must be the host school. If the larger school is forced to be the host, this could cause some combination teams to possibly move up one class.

In other news from the meeting, Lyman High School has added soccer to its programs. The Eagles will play junior varsity for three years and likely join the varsity level in 2021.
