SUBLETTE COUNTY – On Saturday, Oct. 20, Sublette County Unified Fire, in compliance with a Wyoming Homeland Security Grant, conducted a simulated “hazardous materials” response just south of Pinedale on Mesa County Road (23-230).

This exercise, in coordination with Ultra Petroleum, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office and the BLM, was conducted on an access road to an Ultra Well site. The simulation was designed around a chemical truck leaking the product in the ditch off location.

Responders were tested in wearing chemical suits, victim rescue, runoff control and decontamination of the victim and responders. Many lessons were learned, including the set-up and use of the new portable decontamination shower obtained through the grant.
