PINEDALE – The Pinedale Aquatic Center echoed with the sound of competition on Saturday, Oct. 2, as more than 150 athletes from eight schools participated in the Pinedale Invitational.
Sublette County battled significantly larger teams and top programs from across western Wyoming. Sublette County placed sixth overall with 128 points, beating Lyman and Riverton.
Junior Morgan Grossman took second place in the 200-meter freestyle against strong competition, timing in at 2 minutes, 38.20 seconds.
Senior Sierra Hattan picked up third place in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:16.96. Hattan also broke into the top 10 in the 50-meter freestyle, placing sixth with a time of 31.87 seconds.
In diving, junior Rhonda Auradou completed 11 dives with 247.70 points to secure third place.
Junior Rayne Wheeler came in seventh place in both the 200-meter individual medley at 3:01.06 and the 100-meter freestyle at 1:10.85.
Senior Jacie Friel placed 10th in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:26.56 and freshman Alexis Thompson took 10th in the 400-meter freestyle at 6:13.03.
In relay action, Wheeler, Grossman, Hattan and Fallon placed fourth in the 400-meter freestyle relay, timed in at 4:56.38. Hattan, Friel, Wheeler and Grossman came in fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle relay, clocking in at 2:12.22.
“Saturday was a long day that challenged our team to showed how strong they are,” said coach Ambr Seemann. “I was impressed with outstanding swims across the board. Several swimmers dropped a total of ten seconds or more in the individual events and our relay teams were also fast. I am very proud of how well our swimmers competed against some tough teams.”
“It was exciting to see all the teams here and it gave our girls some great competition,” said coach Kursty Day. “We had several athletes finish in the top 10 with personal best times. We look forward to this week’s meets in Rock Springs on Thursday and Rawlins on Saturday.”
