BIG PINEY – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team made waves at the Big Piney Meet on Thursday, Oct. 14. In a series of duels, Sublette County beat Kemmerer, 105-76, and Evanston, 112-61.

Diving back into competition at the Jackson Duels on Friday, the team beat Kemmerer, 97-78, and fell to Jackson, 114-64.

Proving their endurance and resilience during a busy season, athletes brought home multiple top-three finishes and new State-qualifying marks.

Junior Morgan Grossman won the 200 freestyle and qualified in the event at Big Piney. She clocked in at 2 minutes, 34.47 seconds.

Grossman took first place in the 400-meter freestyle at Big Piney, finishing in 5:29.89 and also scored a win in the 500-yard freestyle in Jackson at 6:21.81.

Grossman, along with senior Jacie Friel, junior Ceili Fallon and senior Sierra Hattan, came in first place in the 200-yard medley relay at Jackson. The team timed in at 2:09.58.

Hattan placed first in the 100 breaststroke at both Big Piney and Jackson, clocking in at 1:34.66 and 1:17.89 respectively. The senior’s time at the Jackson Duels was enough for Hattan to qualify in the event.

Hattan also won the 50-yard freestyle at Jackson, qualifying in her fourth event this season with a time of 27.91 seconds.

Senior Mia Buchanan punched her ticket to State in the 100-yard freestyle at Jackson, taking second place at 1:03.15. Buchanan placed second in the 100-meter butterfly in Big Piney, clocking in at 1:25.73.

In the 50-meter freestyle at Big Piney, Buchanan and Hattan tied for second place at 32.09 seconds. Buchanan placed third in the 50-yard freestyle at Jackson at 28.18 seconds.

Buchanan, junior Rayne Wheeler, sophomore Addysen Levitt and freshman Maggie Walker took first place in the 400-meter freestyle relay in Big Piney with a time of 5:04.46.

The Big Piney Meet featured senior recognition night.

“Nona Myers, Rachael Essington, Mia Buchanan and Sierra Hattan have dedicated four years to our team and will be missed as they move on to pursue their life goals,” coach Ambr Seemann said. “New to Pinedale, Jacie Friel joined our team this year and has been a great addition to our senior class. These girls are a joy to coach and receive compliments on their kindness and encouraging nature from many outside coaches and officials.”

Coach Kursty Day highlighted several performances over the weekend.

“Our ladies had some great races,” she said. “Morgan had an amazing finish on her 400 free on Thursday night. We are excited to add Mia to the State roster. Mia also took 5 seconds off her 100 butterfly and missed qualifying by 1 second on Thursday. Jacie dropped time in the 100 backstroke (at Jackson) and just missed qualifying time by 1 second.”
