GILLETTE – Athletes by the hundreds gathered at the Campbell County Aquatics Center in Gillette for the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships on Nov. 4-5.

Seven swimmers represented Sublette County, and despite the small number, the team placed ninth overall with 64 points, beating Lyman, Worland, Newcastle and Riverton.

Thursday’s action featured preliminary rounds with the top 12 in each individual event and relay advancing to the finals on Friday.

Senior Adriaunna Myers took second place in the 50 freestyle. Myers timed in at 5 minutes, 50.08 seconds, her personal record for the season.

Senior Sierra Hattan returned with a third-place medal in the 100 butterfly on Friday, completing the final heat in 1:04.63.

Junior Morgan Grossman made the podium by finishing fifth in the 500 freestyle finals, clocking in at 5:54.54. Grossman also made the finals in the 200 freestyle, coming in 10th place on Friday at 2:12.31.

Wheeler, freshman Maggie Walker, freshman Alexis Thompson and Buchanan came in 10th place in the 400 freestyle relay at 4:16.99.

“The ladies swam their hearts out at State this year with all of them posting lifetime bests in at least one of their swims,” said coach Kursty Day. “Most not only dropped time in the prelims, they also dropped even more time in the finals. We are very proud of our young team and all their effort this year. We look forward to next year and seeing how they improve.”

“We are very proud of our team and their performances at State,” said coach Ambr Seemann. “Most stepped up and gave more than they believed they could to every race. The positive attitudes and effort were so rewarding to witness. These girls worked hard and were consistent in their dedication to reaching their goals. We are looking forward to seeing this team develop as they gain experience.”

Assistant Coach Sharon Bien gave a shoutout to the divers.

"Both Lilly Joseph and Rhonda Auradou made it to the finals and finished strong," she said. "Rhonda took sixth place overall while Lilly was right behind in seventh place. This is quite an accomplishment for these two divers and I am so proud of them."
