Sublette swimmers defend home pool

PINEDALE – The Sublette County girls swimming team welcomed all of its conference foes and a couple other teams Saturday for its first meet of the season at the Pinedale Aquatic Center.

Out of the eight teams that competed, Sublette finished second with 234 points.

"The girls had a successful Homecoming," head coach Gregory Gray said. "They gave super efforts, competed and had fun."

Lander won the meet with 334 points, followed by Sublette, Powell (217), Lyman (164), Evanston (137), Cody (112), Kemmerer (76) and Riverton (28).

McKenzi Davison won two races to lead the charge for Sublette. Davison won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Natalie Hunt, Emma Rogers, Davison and Israel Seeman placed third with the team’s fastest time of the year. The relay of Jennifer Wheeler, Paige Nielson, Reese Noble, and Loveena Winklekotter placed ninth.

In the 200 freestyle, Kaylee Day placed fourth, Adalyn Bennett finished eighth, followed by Muriel Jones (22nd), Dana Wilson (25th) and Olivia Young (26th).

In the 200 individual medley, Rogers finished second, Nielson placed 10th, Wheeler finished 11th and Reese Noble took 15th.

In the 100 butterfly, Hunt placed second and Reese Noble finished 19th.

Day took second in the 500 freestyle. Bennett finished sixth, Seeman was ninth and Muriel Jones finished 14th.

Darbie Paulson took fourth in the 1-meter diving while Kylee Neubauer finished 10th.

Finishing behind Davison in the 100 freestyle were Meleah Covill (fourth), Cassidy Espenscheid (12th), Hailey Noble (23rd), Kinlee Green (25th), Haley Rutsch (29th) and Jocelynn Hunter (31st).

In the 100 backstroke, Hunt placed sixth, Wheeler placed 11th, Lylee Heubauer took 23rd and Winkelkotter finished 27th.

Nielson and Rogers placed fifth and sixth in the 100 breaststroke, respectively. Espenscheid took ninth, Hailey Noble finished 16th while Dana Wilson, Amberlen Stone, Rutsch and Olivia Young grabbed spots 19 through 22, respectively.

In the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, Sublette’s team of Hunt, Seeman, Rogers and Davison finished second. Day, Bennett, Espenscheid, and Covill placed sixth, Olivia Young, Paulson, Winkelkotter, and Birtty Hill placed 10th, Wheeler, Nielson, Neubauer, and Hunter were 11th.

Covill (12th), Israel Seeman 17th), Paulson (26th), Winklekotter (27th), Stone (36th), Hill (39th) and Hunter (40th) also competed in the 50 free.

The Sublette swimmers were also scheduled to compete Thursday in Big Piney as tis paper was going to press.
