LARAMIE – Sublette County girls’ swim team placed seventh out of 13 teams at the 3A state swim meet in Laramie this weekend with an overall score of 92 points. The event was hosted in the new Laramie High School swimming pool and opened with preliminary heats on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Junior Natalie Hunt broke the team record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.94, Head Coach Greg Gray said. Hunt also broke a school record in the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay to a time of 56.76 seconds.
Sophomore Emma Rogers was a few hundredths of a second away from breaking the team record in the 50-yard freestyle race, Gray added. The team of Hunt, Rogers, Cassidy Espenscheid and Adalyn Bennett were a second away from breaking the team record in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
“The kids had a great meet and they gave it everything they had,” Gray said. “The competition was really fast. But we had lots of dropped times, and we continued to see personal bests left and right.”
Senior Darbie Paulson placed sixth in the finals for the 1-meter diving event with a total score of 300.95.
“This is Paulson’s best finish in her four years of competing on the team,” Gray said.
Hunt’s record-breaking swim in the 200- yard individual medley finals put her in fourth place out of 12 swimmers in two final heats on Saturday. She edged out Brynlee Busskohl of Lyman by a hundredth of a second.
Rogers finished third in the 50-yard freestyle finals to a time of 25.59 seconds. The top-12 times were a little over two seconds apart in another sprint that came down to hundredths of a second.

Hattan finished in seventh place with a time of 1:05.30 and Thoman was close behind in ninth place at 1:08.88.
