POWELL – The Sublette County swim team reached a few new peaks at the 3A Conference championships last weekend, Oct. 20-21, in Powell.

The Sublette girls set a few new team records, set numerous personal records and also had its leader named Swimmer of the Meet.

"The girls had a super weekend," Sublette County Head Coach Gregory Gray said. "They broke three team records and saw one after another lifetime best performances."

McKenzi Davison had a standout performance at the conference meet. Davison won a race, broke a school record and was voted the Swimmer of the Meet.

It's a "super honor," coach Gray said.

In the 50-yard freestyle prelims, Davison set a new team record: 25.38 seconds. Davison then won the finals comfortably, by over 1 second, in 25.49 seconds.

Davison also finished third in the 100 free (56.87). In the prelims, however, she knocked 3 seconds off of her seeded time to tie Riverton's Josie Dike for first in 55.75.

Cassidy Espenscheid placed in 11th in 1:03.45, which was fast enough to qualify for state.

Natalie Hunt also set a new team record with her second-place finish in the 200 free. Hunt sliced through the water to set the new record at 2:08.63, knocking almost 6 seconds off her previous qualifying time.

Kaylee Day won the B-final to place seventh in 2:17.78 while Adalyn Bennett finished ninth in 2:22.90.

Davison, Hunt, Israel Seeman and Adalyn Bennett then joined forces to swim the team's fastest 200-yard freestyle relay of the year in 1:47.72 and score 24 team points with a third-place finish.

Davison, Hunt, Seeman and Day also finished second in the 400-free relay.

In the 100 butterfly, Hunt placed second in 1:04.94 and Hayden Thoman placed 11th in 1:13.89.

In the 500 free, Day finished third in 6:05.06, Seeman finished fourth in 6:11.47 and Bennett placed 10th in 6:31.93.

In the 100-yard breaststroke Paige Nielson placed 10th in 1:22.32.

Darbie Paulson placed fifth in the 1-meter diving competition with 262.30 points.

In the 200 individual-medley race, Jennifer Wheeler placed 12th, but qualified for state with her time, 2:43.88. Wheeler also qualified for state in the 100 back with a time of 1:13.10.

Wheeler, Espenscheid, Thoman and Meleah Covill placed sixth in the 200-medley relay in 2:10.14.

The coach said other girls swimming and diving "giving super efforts," and most seeing person bests, were Miriam Avail, Madelynn Deeds, Kinlee Green, Britty Hill, Jocelynn Hunter, Muriel Jones, Kylee Neubauer, Hailey Noble, Reese Noble, Haley Rutsch, Amberlen Stone, Dana Wilson, Loveena Winkelkotter and Olivia Young.

Sublette was also without Emma Rogers for most of the meet. Rogers only swam in one event, placing ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke, before getting sidelined with an injury.

"The girls really missed one of their most talented swimmers with an injury," coach Gray said. "The team is hoping she makes it back by state."

Coach Gray was co-conference Coach of the Year.

Lander won the conference meet with 357.5 points, followed by Powell (300.5), Sublette County (185), Lyman (165), Riverton (141) and Kemmerer (113).

The Sublette swimmers competed in a non-qualifier yesterday in Green River in its final tune up before the state championships next week, Nov. 2-3, in Gillette.
