Sublette still near top as unemployment drops

WYOMING – The state’s unemployment continued to fall in March, going below the national average and introducing more people back into the workforce. However, Sublette’s unemployment rate continues to hover near the top.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services’ Research & Planning section reported on Monday the rate fell to 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent.

This is much lower than the unemployment rate from a year before when the rate was 5.0 percent. Rates fell in every county over the last year, including one of the most dramatic drops in Sublette County. Sublette’s rate fell from 7.1 to 4.6 percent – the largest drop aside from Natrona County’s fall from 7.5 percent to 4.7 percent.

However, Sublette County’s 4.6-percent rate is still among the highest in the state, tied with Sweetwater behind only Natrona.

Total nonfarm employment in Wyoming rose from 270,300 to 278,500 between March 2021 and March 2022. That was an increase of 8,200 jobs (about 3 percent).
