Richard Franklin Gordon, 85, of Marbleton, Wyo., passed away at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

Richard was born May 11, 1932, in Big Piney, Wyo., to Lon and Burney (Matlock) Gordon. His early years and childhood were spent growing up and attending school in Big Piney.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon return from his naval service, he married his lifelong sweetheart Rose Marie Adaline Duval on June 2, 1955, in Evanston, Wyo. To this union were born four children – Ronald, Richard D., Rhonda and Randall.

Richard made his living working in the oil and gas industry in Sublette County. He had a deep belief in God but was not influenced by any particular religion. He was a member of the Big Piney Gun Club, was an avid reader and a true sportsman. He was a lifetime resident of Sublette County who loved everything this county had to offer. His most remarkable accomplishment was raising his family in the same home over his lifetime; his family was never for want or went hungry or cold; they were always clean and well cared for and his efforts allowed our mother to always be there for us. He accomplished this with a determination not common in an oilfield drill-rig hand at the time.
Richard is survived by his sons Ronald and Randy Gordon and daughter Rhonda Amos, all of Big Piney, sister Louise Wright Gordon, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lon and Burney Gordon, wife Rose Marie Gordon, son Richard Dale Gordon, two brothers, four half-sisters, a half brother and his first granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Marbleton Senior Center. Interment and military honors will immediately follow in the Plainview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s memory can be sent care of Covill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1507, Pinedale, WY 82941, to help offset medical and funeral expenses.
