Colorful rainbow flags decorated American Legion Park on Saturday, June 8, a warm welcome on a cold morning to community members who gathered to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month at the third annual Pride Not Prejudice Picnic.
About three dozen people from near and far attended the event sponsored by the Pinedale Women’s Advocacy Group. Folks enjoyed painting moose, music, some dancing to warm up and a generous potluck meal.
Matt Stech, representing Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) delivered a guest speech about the need for nondiscrimination ordinances in towns across Wyoming. Event organizers Joni Mack and John Kelly welcomed everyone to the event and emphasized the need to create a place for all people to feel free to express who they are.
The Rev. Melinda Bobo, rector at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, spoke about the need for the message of “Christian faith to be one of openness and inclusion of everybody.”
