SUBLETTE COUNTY – Nancy A. Gerwatowski, 59, charged with a decades-old newborn’s murder in Mackinac County, Michigan, waived extradition and will remain in custody at the Sublette County Detention Center without bond until authorities transport her.
The Sublette County Circuit Court status hearing set for Thursday, July 21, was canceled. Gerwatowski was arrested July 12 on an out-of-state warrant for the alleged murder of “Baby Garnet,” who was found dead at the Garnet Lake Campground in late June 1997. Michigan authorities used forensic genetic genealogy to connect the infant’s remains to Gerwatowski, who reportedly confirmed she was the child’s biological mother. It isn’t known how the infant died.
