STATEWIDE — Two Pinedale students are among the winners selected by Wyoming Humanities in the 2023 Letters About Literature contest. The national program invites students in fourth through 12th grades to write back to the author of a book that changed their lives and inspired them. More than 160 Wyoming students competed in the 2023 event.

Delaney Edwards’ letter written to Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of “A Little House Traveler,” earned Delaney second place in this year’s Letters About Literature contest.

A letter written by Joel Edwards to Adam Makos, author of “Spearhead,” earned Joel third place in the competition.

“Letters about Literature encourages kids to read and, most importantly, to think about what they’ve read,” Wyoming Humanities’ Luca Falick said.

“Writing a letter to the author is also more fun than writing a traditional essay that achieves much of the same thing.”

Joel and Delaney’s letters, plus the other winning entries, can be read online at https://www.thinkwy.org/letters-about-literature.
