PES hosts innovative fundraiser

PINEDALE – Fifth-grade students at Pinedale Elementary School presented a check for $1,041.80 to Kickin’ Cancer Sublette County earlier this week following a successful fundraiser last month.

Students hosted the Game Over For Cancer Cardboard Arcade in March to raise funds. Students in the PEAK WIN group began planning and implementing the service-learning project in February. Students identified a local organizations to plan, organize and advertise the fundraising event, while also creating arcade games that had to be functioning and made solely out of cardboard and recycled materials.

All Pinedale Elementary School students were invited to participate by building a cardboard arcade game or by visiting the arcade when it opened.

The arcade was open on March 15 and 17, during parent-teacher conferences. Along with the games created by fifth-grade students, many families from other grade levels chose to bring in games. Eventually, the arcade featured over 40 games while the fifth graders ran the entire event.

Students presented their donation check to Kickin’ Cancer President Steve James on Tuesday.
