SUBLETTE COUNTY – Sublette County Unified Fire volunteers and Bridger-Teton National Park officials were alerted to a small fire in the Big Piney Ranger District of Bridger-Teton National Park at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

That fire, located between Prospect Peak and Merna Butte, was initially estimated to be between a half and 1 acre along Pass Creek.

By evening the fire had grown to an estimated 25 acres. As of mid-day Thursday the fire was still reported to be 25 acres.

According to Teton Interagency Fire, two helicopters poured buckets as firefighters from Sublette County, East Zone Engine crews and helitack hiked to the fire. Air attack and two single engine air tankers were ordered out of Pocatello along with a load of eight smokejumpers out of West Yellowstone.

A Type I crew is scheduled to arrive on Friday and a Type I helicopter has been ordered.

There are currently no closures in the area but the public is being asked to stay out of the fire area.
