Leroy Lavelle Delaney, fondly known as Lee, died on Feb. 8, 2023, in Redding, Calif.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 29, 1945, Lee was the son of the late Bill and Maxine Delaney.

Lee was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was thoroughly devoted to his family. Lee was so blessed to have been married to his wonderful wife, Anita, for 54 years.

Lee worked for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for 31 years in Wyoming, Montana, California  and Washington, D.C. He loved working for the BLM. Not one day did he wake up wishing he didn't have to go to work. His favorite job with the BLM was as the area manager for the Surprise Resource Area in Cedarville, Calif.  Living in Modoc County was much the same as living and growing up in his home state of Wyoming. He firmly believed he had the best staff in the BLM, who made his job extremely easy. He also greatly enjoyed the public he worked with and the many friends he made in Surprise Valley and Alturas.

He is survived by his wife, Anita; sons, Travis (Terri) and Kip (Amber); brother, Bill; grandchildren Tanner, Kennedy, Kate, Lauren (Joe), Lynnzi (Nic), great-grandchildren Armondo, Zelma, Lily, Wayllon, Rowdee, Walker and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Louise.

A service will be held on March 3 at 1 p.m., at Allen and Dahl, 2655 Eureka Way Redding,  CA 96001.

In lieu of flowers, Lee asks that donations be made to the Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse and burro program.
