LANDER – Even though the school year has yet to begin at Pinedale High School, the golf team is already hard at work and has one tournament under its belt this season.
The boys and girls high school golf teams ventured to the Lander Invitational at the Lander Golf Club last Thursday and Friday for their first varsity tournament of the year.
Other teams in attendance included Lander, Riverton, Jackson, Star Valley, Lyman and Kemmerer.
According to head coach Luke Myszewski, the tournament was full of “near misses” from his field of athletes competing.
“We had a handful of good rounds, but we just didn’t put them together,” the coach said.
On the boys side, junior Danny Gosar finished five shots back from earning a finish in the top 10, while junior Teagan Pennock finished six shots back. Senior Tommy LaBuda finished the two-day tournament nine shots back. Overall, the boys team finished in fifth place with a score of 750, while Lander won the tournament after earning a score of 612.
On the girls side, sophomore Kodie Hammer finished in 11th place overall, with the girls team not posting a team score.
Myszewski says he was pleased with the opening tournament results.
“I think we are a bit rusty to start, but I think it was a successful first tournament,” he said. “We know what we need to work on and will be pushing hard as the season continues.”
The team headed to Riverton on Thursday of this week for its second tournament of the season that will conclude today, Friday, Aug. 18.
