The recent article where Western Watersheds
advocates for a law requiring persons
to carry bear spray in the Greater Yellowstone
Ecosystem is another intrusion of
personal rights by a “project” that takes governmental
control to extremes.
Does bear spray work in many instances?
Yes.
Does bear spray guarantee your safety in
all encounters with bears? No.
Is the public advised to carry bear spray
at present? Yes.
Have there been encounters where person
carrying bear spray were attacked? Yes.
At present, even with the encounters
where a bear is killed, is the bear population
increasing? Yes.
Bear spray is an effective tool, but not the
only tool. I believe in individual rights and
not the right for the government to mandate
what I need for personal protection.
Let the individual decide what type of
protection they would carry.
Wyoming Game and Fish’s bear management
are the most dedicated individuals
I have ever seen in wildlife conservation.
Their drive, determination and honesty are
without reproach. Their work ethic exceeds
any I have ever witnessed. They are dedicated
to the public and the bear population,
even when they are assailed at every direction
by numerous coalitions who attempt to
use the government to mandate their ideology.
Let Wyoming Game and Fish do their job
and grizzly bears and the public will both
prosper.
