Linda Josephine Meeks

Posted

Linda Josephine Meeks was born to parents Dorothy E. McAlister and Charles P. McAlister in Powell, Wyo., on Aug. 4, 1952, in a set of triplets – Linda, Lydia, and Luanna. God called Luanna home, and set Linda and Lydia to do good works in his name.

Growing up with a sister that is the same age led Linda on many adventures. She and her sister would sometimes go on all-girl camping trips on horseback or ride from Pinedale to Bondurant with friends. Linda spoke fondly of spending summers in Bondurant at her grandmother’s house playing with Lydia and assisting with the annual community celebration at the Bondurant BBQ. All her life, Linda cared deeply about the community and the fellowship of her faith. Linda joined the track team just after they allowed girls to be part of high school sports in Wyoming. She played the tenor saxophone in high school band and carried these skills over to praise and worship at church.

Linda married James R. Flugel in 1970. Linda was a hard worker and actively engaged in raising her family. Linda and Jim were divorced in 1981 and successfully navigated the co-parenting challenge of three kids.

Linda remarried Stanly Craig Meeks in 1982. They had one son together, Charles Meeks, and Linda welcomed Lori and Lyric into her life as her stepdaughters. After Craig died, she met Chuck in 2000 and went on many fun adventures with Chuck until his death in 2014. Linda was a devoted mother and worked diligently to provide for her family.

Linda always made time to come home to help her dad on the ranch during haying season. Over the many years, she developed the skills necessary to run the ranch on her own from 1998 until she retired from the physical nature of the work in 2018. During much of this time, she also had the task of being the primary care provider for her mother and waited tables at Stockman’s.

Linda was an active member in women’s Aglow outreach and in non-denominational evangelical churches. Her interests and hobbies included helping people in the community, praise and worship, cooking, baking and decorating cakes, photography and spending time with her family.

Linda was a sturdy lady who navigated adversity with grace and her focus on her family values never wavered. As a single mother, she often worked two or three jobs to ensure her children had what they needed to be successful. She continued to selflessly support her adult children in their times of need. Her kindness and love touched us all and should stand as a shining example of resilience, courage and love. Her faith in God gave her strength and Jesus has provided her a place in heaven.

Linda is preceded in death by her triplet sister Luanna Kay, her parents, youngest son Charles Meeks, husband Stanly “Craig” Meeks, partner Chuck Murry, her grandson Craig Meeks.

She is survived by her sister Lydia Borzea (Jim), oldest son Joe Flugel (Keiko, Jun and Kai), younger son Cayle Flugel (and family Tracy, Keaton, Katryna, Jodi, Karli, Blake, Sage, Leah, and Ryan) her daughter Liana Koepp (Colin Koepp, children Franki and James Mears) and her other grandchildren, Weston, Allandra, Lily, Ryker and Marah and her stepdaughters Lori McDounagh (son Tyler) and Lyric Murphy (son Alex).

Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 12:30 p.m. at the Daniel Community Center. A reception will follow the services at the Daniel Schoolhouse.
