Lady Wranglers battle Worland, weather

WORLAND – The Pinedale High School varsity girls soccer team ventured to Worland last week, where it took on a talented team in rain and wind throughout the match.

Worland was able to earn a quick goal early in the match, but Pinedale soon responded through a free kick just outside Worland’s box, with senior McKenna Legerski kicking the ball in at the top corner, bringing the game to 1-1.

According to head coach Jennifer Adam, Worland’s offensive speed was difficult for Pinedale to defend against, making the remainder of the game a struggle for the Lady Wranglers.

“We could not hold out against their offensive speed,” she said.

Despite battling against the Lady Warriors for two full halves, the Lady Wranglers were handed a tough 3-1 loss.

Freshman Jackie Nutt was named player of the game for shutting down one of Worland’s top players, Adam said. In addition, the coach was pleased with efforts from senior goalkeeper River Dauwen, junior Faith Friend and freshman Nora Legerski. Senior Lynora Anderson led Pinedale with two shots on the goal, while the team finished with seven total shots on the goal. Worland finished with 21 shots on the goal, with Dauwen saving 18.

The team wraps up the regular season with road games in Cody today and Powell on Saturday, May 6.

“We are excited to travel to Cody and Powell,” Adam said. “After that is regionals, which determines if we go to state.”

Today’s game in Cody is set to begin at 3 p.m., with tomorrow’s game in Powell kicking off at 10 a.m.
