DANIEL — An 880-square-foot barn with lean-to additions in Daniel was destroyed on March 3 when a structure fire erupted at 738 Daniel-Merna Road. Upon arrival, Sublette County Unified Fire (SCUF) Battalions 1, 2, 5 and 6 observed the barn was fully engulfed in flames with a partial roof collapse.
It had been used for storing ranch equipment, personal items and as a kennel for the homeowner’s dogs.
Firefighters initiated a defensive attack and extinguished “the fire in a timely manner,” SCUF Chief Shad Cooper said. “While the barn was a total loss, fire suppression operations prevented the fire from extending to other exposures on the property.”
Chief Cooper said the homeowner sustained a minor injury to his hand while rescuing his dogs from the kennel area of the barn.
No responders were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
