SUBLETTE COUNTY – Kindhearted and generous animal lovers and artists showed up Aug. 17 to support Happy Endings Animal Rescue’s first annual “Pet Portrait Art Show” fundraiser and bid on personalized pet portraits.

More than a dozen local painters, photographers and sketchers displayed samples of their works for bidders to win a unique opportunity for a pet portrait to be completed for Christmas delivery. People also bid on a lovely table of donated human, canine and feline gift baskets with many flavors and smells. The Pet Portrait Art Show will hang on the Pinedale Library’s Galley Wall through August.

HEAR cofounder Suzy Kramer and event organizer Karla Bird welcomed people to the Lovatt Room and talked about the animal rescue nonprofit’s need for animal adoptions and “pet foster parents.”

Happy Endings is housing kittens and full-grown cats at Creature Comforts Pet Shop, 269 S. Cole Ave., Pinedale, where hopeful humans can watch them play and scratch a few ears. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

HEAR is hoping to fund its own facility and in the meantime, most rescue dogs are taken in by foster moms and dads. When fostered animals are deemed healthy, sociable and spayed or neutered, they are available for adoption.
