PINEDALE – Pinedale High School senior Keegan Gehlhausen signed to wrestle for the Chadron State College Eagles at a ceremony in the Wrangler Gym on March 30.
Gehlhausen rose to the top as one of the best wrestlers in Wyoming during his high school career. Dominating each weight class that he moved through, Gehlhausen won the State Championship and received All-State recognition his freshman, sophomore and senior years.
In 2018, Gehlhausen won the 3A State Tournament in the 106-pound weight class by pinning his opponent from Star Valley 5 minutes, 4 seconds into the first-place round. A year later, after a closely contested battle, Gehlhausen took first place in the 126-pound division at State when he defeated Star Valley’s Tristan Hicks by a 4-2 decision.
This year, Gehlhausen won the 3A title in the 170-pound weight class, defeating Tray Hyatt of Riverton by a 9-3 decision in a three-period match.
Earning the State Championship wrestling title qualified Gehlhausen to compete at the High School Nationals hosted annually in Virginia Beach.
Gehlhausen started wrestling in elementary school and competed at the middle school before joining the Wrangler varsity squad his freshman year. The senior also plays soccer for Pinedale.
Gehlhausen enjoys outdoor pursuits including hunting and fishing and hopes to pursue a career in rangeland management.
“I am very honored and very excited to continue my wrestling career and have a chance to improve with an excellent wrestlers in a great program,” Gehlhausen said on Tuesday.
