Freshmen satisfy hoops drought ahead of Winter Classic

PINEDALE – The Wrangler and Lady Wrangler basketball programs kicked off 2022 with freshmen squads taking on Big Piney at the Pinedale High School Gym on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Pinedale freshmen girls surged ahead in the second half to score a significant 47-20 win. The boys’ team fought an intense, point-for-point battle through the first three quarters. Big Piney pulled ahead in the fourth quarter for the win, 38-30.

Varsity and junior varsity spent the week preparing for a final weekend of tournaments before conference play picks up.

Pinedale hosts the 2022 Boys Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8. Varsity takes on Thermopolis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Wrangler Gym.

On Saturday, Pinedale plays Buffalo at 11 a.m. and Rawlins at 3:30 p.m., also in the Wrangler Gym.

Junior varsity plays Thermopolis in the Pinedale Middle School Gym at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by games against Buffalo at 8 a.m. and Rawlins at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the high school gym.

The Lady Wranglers travel to Rawlins for the Girls Winter Classic. On Friday, Jan. 7, varsity plays the host school at 7:30 p.m. A busy Saturday opens with Pinedale’s varsity squad taking on Thermopolis at 11 a.m. and Worland at 2 p.m.

Junior varsity plays Rawlins at 6 p.m. on Friday and Thermopolis at 12:30 p.m. and Worland at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
