Dexter Smith was born on Aug. 18, 1943, in Spokane, Wash. He passed away at his home in Pinedale, Wyo., on April 12, 2017.

Dexter was the son of Howard and Maxine Smith. He lived in Minnesota until his family moved to Pinedale in 1952, when his father became the town’s dentist. He graduated from Pinedale High School in 1962, and then went on to get a teaching certificate in industrial arts from the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1968.

Dexter married Carole Morgensen in 1968 and had four children – Evelynn Thomas, Judy Vitolo, Ty Smith and Carrie Becker. He lived in Colorado, Montana, Alaska and North Dakota before settling back down in Pinedale in 1989.

Dexter lived a full, active life and enjoyed his animals and the mountains around him. He also loved people and would go out of his way to help anyone in need.

Dexter was involved with the Pinedale Community Food Basket, Back Country Horsemen, and most importantly, his church. He was a devout Christian and lived to serve Christ every day. His strong belief in God was evident in everything he did.

Dexter is survived by his wife, his four children and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Kent Smith.

There will be a memorial service for Dexter on April 22 at the Pinedale Bible Church at 10 a.m. and a reception at Rendezvous Pointe from 12 to 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate his life.
