In May of 2022, Kainer had no intention of running as a Republican nominee for the office of the Sublette County and Prosecuting Attorney. Although he knew there was widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration, he did not appreciate how bad things had truly become. A wide and diverse group of citizens who approached Kainer made it clear that the candidates who were on the ballot for the Republican nomination would simply maintain the status quo.

Clay Kainer would like to announce his candidacy for Sublette County and Prosecuting Attorney.
Kainer was born and raised in Colorado. Immediately after graduating high school, Kainer joined the Navy and served four years aboard the USS Paul F. Foster. Kainer studied German at the University of Wyoming, where he met his wife of 17 years. Kainer attended the University of Wyoming College of Law where he graduated in 2009. Upon graduation, Kainer and his family moved to Boulder, Wyo., to help on the family ranch and begin his practice of law.
Kainer served as the chief deputy county attorney and the Sublette County Attorney up until 2018.
