Busy weekend for XC runners

JACKSON – The third week of competition proved a busy one for Pinedale High School juniors Madison Antonino and Cora Koci, both competing on the Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) cross-country team.

On Friday, JHHS traveled with its junior varsity squad to the Tiger-Grizzly Invitational in Idaho Falls. The meet consisted of 53 teams from across Idaho and the region, including schools in Wyoming and Nevada.

A rough course, a middle section full of hills and temperatures in the 80s made for a challenging race, said head JHHS coach Jeff Brazil.

Koci rose to the occasion, snagging 60th place in the junior varsity “A” division with a time of 26 minutes, 39.70 seconds.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the JHHS team stayed home to compete in the Old Bill’s Fun Run, a major fundraising event in Jackson Hole with proceeds going to local nonprofits.

Antonino won her division in the fun run, crossing the finish line in 18:44.

“Maddy’s goal was to get under 19 minutes this early in the season – mission accomplished!” said Coach Brazil.

Koci finished the fun run with a time of 28:12.

“We wanted to give varsity runners a chance to get the feeling of running fast and not worry so much about gaining race experience as they have plenty of that at this point,” Coach Brazil added. “All other runners were supposed to have a fun and easy run with teammates. The girls even had awesome costumes made for the race.”
