“We had a fantastic weekend at the State ski meet,” wrote Head Coach Scott Auld and assistant coaches Dylan Bear and Dan Williams. “Our athletes skied smart, they skied clean and it paid off for them. Second place for the boys and fourth place for the girls are an improvement for this season. We couldn’t be more proud of everyone.”

JACKSON – The Pinedale High School alpine ski team shredded the slopes at the State Alpine Ski Meet at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village on March 3-4.

The Wrangler boys’ varsity team snagged second place overall, posting 65 team points. The Lady Wranglers placed fourth as a team with 30 points.

Snow and wind created “tough” skiing conditions and low visibility during the giant slalom race on Friday and the slalom race on Saturday, said Coach Bear. True to form, Wranglers and Lady Wranglers took the adverse weather in stride.

“The team buckled down and focused on the task at hand,” Coach Bear remarked. “The athletes showed up with a mindset and confidence that I knew was going to produce great things. Practicing and working on tactics over the season came together for the skiers at State and it was great to see. The modesty and sportsmanship displayed by our athletes made me proud of each and every one. It was a true blessing to be with them this year.”

Sophomore James Tolson earned All-State recognition for cumulative points tallied over the course of a successful season including multiple top-10 finishes.

At State, Tolson placed 10th in giant slalom on Friday, clocking both runs in at 2 minutes, 12.97 seconds. He snagged ninth place in the slalom races on Saturday with a combined time of 1:38.77.

Sophomore Destin Williams came in ninth place in the boys’ varsity giant slalom on Friday, timing in at 2:11.46.

Freshman Tristan Robertson bagged 10th place in the boys’ varsity slalom race on Saturday, posting a combined time of 1:38.83.

In girls’ varsity, sophomore Nora Broadhead led the Pinedale pack on both Friday and Saturday. She came in 13th place on the giant slalom course on Friday with a time of 2:19.77. On Saturday, Broadhead earned 11th place, clocking both slalom runs in at 1:50.91.
