On Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, the world lost a bright and shining star, who was totally dedicated to children, as Bonnie Weber Remington passed away from a battle with cancer in Spokane, Wash., at the age of 64.

Bonnie was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Kemmerer, Wyo., to Arthur and Madeline Weber. Raised in Big Piney, Wyo., Bonnie graduated from Big Piney High School and obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wyoming. She began her teaching career in Evanston, Wyo., being selected as the Uinta County Teacher of the Year in 1983.

Bonnie was heavily involved in the Evanston community, doing such activities as teaching Bonnie’s “Bubbly Babes,” an exercise program for women at the city’s indoor pool, becoming the president of the Evanston Parks and Recreation Commission, being instrumental in raising money for the Evanston Recreation Center, and assisting with Wyoming’s Jr. Miss Program.

In the early 1990s, Bonnie moved to San Diego, Calif., where she completed her master’s degree in school administration and began her administrative career as a vice principal at Chase Avenue Elementary School. She later became a principal in the La Mesa School District, being named the “Young Administrator of the Year” by the California Schools Leadership Academy. Bonnie then moved to the Spokane, Wash., area where she served as the principal of Arcadia Elementary School in the Deer Park School District from 1997 to 2013. From 2013 through 2016, she continued as the principal of Deer Park Elementary School, finishing her career in late 2016 as the district’s Student Services Coordinator and as a PBIS trainer for the Northeast Washington Educational Service District.

The Deer Park community became near and dear to her heart as she served as the master of ceremonies at the Miss Deer Park Pageant each year and as the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Tri-County Settlers Parade. A memorial ceremony was held by the Deer Park School District on March 4, 2017, allowing the Deer Park community to pay tribute to Bonnie.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her father Arthur, mother Madeline and brother Murray. Bonnie is survived by husband Stan Remington, sister Valerie (Tex) Williams, niece Julie (Ron) Lenard and beloved West Highland terrier dog Sassi.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held in her hometown of Big Piney, Wyo., at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 23, at the Southwest Sublette County Pioneers Senior Center, 429 E. 1st Street, Marbleton, Wyo.
