LYMAN – The Big Piney football scored a slim, 21-20, victory over Lyman on Friday, Oct. 20, to win a share of the 2A Conference title and eliminate the Eagles from playoff contention.

Mountain View could have won the conference outright, but Greybull ran all over the Buffs, 41-15, to give them their first conference loss and force a tie at the top of the standings at 5-1, between Big Piney and Mountain View. Since Mountain View beat Big Piney, however, it was awarded the conference's No. 1 seed for the Class 2A state playoffs.

Big Piney got the No. 2 seed and will host Newcastle in the first-round at 2 p.m. today.

Against Lyman, however, the Punchers trailed at 14-7 halftime and 20-14 in the fourth quarter. A late touchdown pass, from Tristan Barney to Jake Pape, however, gave Big Piney the lead with about 1 minute, 30 seconds left in the game and its defense made a final stand to seal the win.

Punchers win conference with unblemished record

KEMMERER – The Big Piney volleyball team took down Kemmerer in three games on Thursday, Oct. 19, to finish its conference season with a perfect 6-0 mark.

The Punchers won the games comfortably, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14.

Big Piney has now won six straight games, including nine of its last 10 games, to improve to 17-7 overall. Big Piney is also ranked No. 5 in Class 2A by WyoPreps.

As the 2A Southwest Conference champs, Big Piney earned the conference's No. 1 seed for regionals. They'll play the No. 3 team from the 2A Northwest Conference in the first round, Riverside (8-14, 2-6 2A Northwest). That game will take place at 1 p.m. today.

Greybull (20-4, 7-1) won the 2A Northwest Conference and is the No. 1 seed on the other side of the bracket.
