LARAMIE – The Pinedale High School alpine ski team hit the slopes at the Snowy Range Ski Area in the Medicine Bows to open its 2021 season on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 7-8.
Skiers competed in two giant slalom runs on Thursday (where the gates are further apart) and two slalom runs on Friday. The times from the pair of runs determined the skiers final place each day.
Sophomore Sydney Wise led the Pinedale pack in girls' varsity giant slalom and placed 14th. Wise clocked her first run in at 42.34 seconds, followed by 41.87 seconds in the second run for a combined time of 1 minute, 24.21 seconds.
Junior Allison Gregory took 16th place, timing both runs in at 1:24.99. Aubrey Bryan, a sophomore from Farson skiing for Pinedale finished in 21st place, clocking her runs in at 1:29.91.
In boys' varsity giant slalom, senior Michael Vitanza placed 22nd at 1:28.05. His finished his first run in 42.44 seconds, followed by 45.61 seconds in the next run.
Sophomore Sean Ruckman came in 23rd place, timing both runs in at 1:30.01. Junior Nicholas Boyce took 24th place at 1:31.35 for the combined runs. Junior Brayden Bennett finished in 26th place, with a combined time of 1:45.04.
Junior Allison Gregory competed in the girls' varsity slalom races on Friday. Gregory finished her first run in 56.30 seconds and the second run in 1:05.25 for a combined time of 2:01.55.
Wise took 19th place, timing her runs in at 2:04.53. Bryan came in 20th place at 2:10.30, followed by junior Katie LaBuda in 21st at 2:12.65 and junior Alena Mika in 22nd at 2:23.74.
In boys' slalom, Vitanza placed 17th, timing in at 2:05.61. Ruckman followed close behind in 18th place at 2:10.01.
Junior Zach Maxam placed 20th with a time of 2:21.51. Bennett came in 21st at 2:24.49.
