Alfreda Matlock Jones was born in February 1941 and died on Feb. 13, 2017.

She was born in Oklahoma and later grew up in Wyoming. She married Jim Smith in 1958 and to that union were three children – Jim Smith Jr. of Big Piney, Wyo., Tom Smith of Manhattan, Mont., and Connie Nelson of Freedom, Wyo. Later on in life, Jim and Alfreda divorced.

She spent time living in St. George, Utah, working at J.C. Penney’s. Then she moved to Montana. She met Jack while she worked for Corral West. They married in 1994 on Valentine’s Day.

Jack had four children from a previous marriage – Leonard, Richard, Wynnell and Reta.

Alfreda’s days were spent traveling with Jack when he was driving truck. I think she had made it to almost every state except three.

When she was home, she spent time with family, tended her yard and flowers, and made quilts, which she loved to do. She shared them with all her family. She leaves behind everything she has taught her kids and lots of memories. My mom will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Barbara Matlock, and brothers Leon and George Matlock.

Between Jack and Alfreda, they had 18 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids, and one great-great-grandkid.

She was buried at Plainview Cemetery in Big Piney.
