Sandy and Brad Bousman, Boulder ranchers, are the first recipients of the Sage and Snow Garden of Beauty Award for 2022. Sandy is a very experienced and adventurous gardener. She grows a little bit of everything that will survive and thrive in our zone 3 climate zone. In the photo, Sandy is standing in front of Austrian Copper roses, but her yard features many different types and colors of roses. She also grows cherry trees, buffalo berries, honey berries, raspberries, gooseberries, currants, high bush cranberries, chokecherries, wild plums, Siberian crabapples and a Harrison apple tree. Her in-ground vegetable garden is full of potatoes, onions, garlic, and cabbage. Nearby, she uses ranch lick tubs to grow peas, spinach, carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, broccoli and borage. Her squash garden is unique because it is nestled in front of large rocks for warmth and protection from the wind. The attached greenhouse is full of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and marigolds. Besides colorful roses, Sandy’s yard has lilacs, delphiniums, potentilla, trumpet vine, mock orange, iris and poppies that bloom throughout the summer. Sandy has created her own botanical garden right here in Sublette County.
