CASPER – Stiff competition, coupled with a lack of focus and scoring, made things difficult for the Pinedale High School varsity boys basketball team as the Wranglers competed at the 3A State Basketball Tournament in Casper last week. The trip to state was the first since 2010 and only the 11th in school history.

Pinedale entered into the tournament as the No. 3 seed from the West, where the team first took on No. 2-seed Worland out of the East on Thursday evening last week.

According to Pinedale coach Eric Oram, the Wranglers struggled to find the basket and defend inside against the Warriors.

“We allowed them to get the ball inside way too much,” he said. “It was not our best game from an energy and focus standpoint and Worland took it to us. They played a good game.”

The rough game wrapped up with a Warriors victory with a final score of 57-33.

Senior Garrett Lozier led Pinedale with 14 points, and earned All-Conference and All-State honors for his stellar play all season. Sophomore Danny Gosar tacked on nine points and was also named to the All-Conference list this year.

Oram said he saw some solid minutes from his bench, noting that sophomores Blake Illoway, Tyler Van Etten and Wyatt Phelps all contributed in the matchup.

The loss moved the Wranglers into the consolation round, where they took on No. 4-seed Torrington from the East on Friday.
